Throughout my career as an engineer, CTO, and founder, I’ve had the privilege of surrounding myself with some of the smartest and most creative people in the industry. These individuals came from diverse backgrounds—small companies, large corporations, fresh graduates, and seasoned veterans with decades of experience. Despite their differences, they shared a common thread: they were exceptional at what they did and willing to share their insights.

To achieve a successful career, I needed these people. I needed to have lunch with them, watch them work, get their feedback on how I could improve, and discuss the world over a beverage. To succeed, not just survive, in this industry, I needed to understand how others excelled. What did they do to stand out?  How did they challenge themselves to learn and strive for improvement every day? Observing their communication techniques and understanding how they influenced others to bring out the best in their teams was invaluable.

Moreover, observing high-performing teams and understanding what made them successful was crucial. Clarity of thought and communication went hand in hand with clear code and high-quality products. It wasn’t always about using the fanciest new tech but about knowing which tech was right or wrong and knowing why. This understanding drove acceleration and success.
